Throughout his career, Dr. Michael J. Gitter has immersed himself in improving the quality and accuracy of diagnostic procedures for evaluating heart disease. This key role helps ensure Appleton Heart Institute patients receive the most appropriate care for their heart condition — and undergo invasive procedures only when necessary.
Dr. Gitter specializes in noninvasive diagnostic procedures. As director of nuclear cardiography for Appleton Heart Institute, he uses complete echocardiography and nuclear imaging technologies to further diagnose heart disease with the most accurate technology available. The state-of-the-art nuclear lab located at Appleton Heart Institute is one of the most advanced in the region.
Dr. Gitter’s expertise in noninvasive diagnosis and evaluation of the heart includes:
- Nuclear cardiology
- Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography
- Echo stress testing
- Cardiac CT
Dr. Gitter received his degree in medicine from the University of Wisconsin. After completing his internship and residency at the University of Minnesota–Hennepin County Medical Center,he completed four more years of fellowship and advanced fellowship training in cardiovascular diseases at Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Gitter joined Appleton Heart Institute in spring 2000 and maintains a full-time clinical practice in cardiology. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases.
