Dr. D. James Mariano is a cardiologist with special training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disturbances. This subspecialty of cardiology is known as cardiac electrophysiology. As the director of cardiac electrophysiology at Appleton Heart Institute, Dr. Mariano works with an experienced staff, using state-of-the-art technology to uncover underlying causes of heart rhythm abnormalities. Dr. Mariano performs the full breadth of cardiac procedures to evaluate and manage heart rhythm disturbances, including: - Electrophysiology studies
- Radiofrequency ablation
- Permanent pacemaker implantation
- Biventricular pacemaker implantation
- Defibrillator implants
- Tilt-table testing
Dr. Mariano received his medical school training at Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn., where he also completed his internship and medical residency. He went on to complete fellowships in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Mariano joined Appleton Heart Institute in 1992 and maintains a full-time clinical practice in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases and cardiac electrophysiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology.
